Refining My Rush Poker Game…

January 25th, 2010 -- Posted in Poker Strategy | No Comments »

Couple days ago I lost 5 buyins in about 60 mins playing Full Tilt Pokers new Rush Poker. Annoyed I decided to take a day or so off and gather my thoughts. While gathering my thoughts I totally spent 10 hours a day playing BIOSHOCK because BIOSHOCK 2 comes out on Feb 9th. I have a feeling I will be taking another couple days off to gather my thoughts around that time too…heh

Anyway I was talking to Dustin @DustinJanzen of DustinJanzen.com and he recommended:

Slowing Down: This was the single most useful piece of advice. I play RUSH way to fast. Actually the problem was I didn’t really know how to play rush. I figured because it was such a fast game I could just quickfold till I got a monster hand. Thats sort of what everyone else is doing and as it is with many things in life:

Doing what everyone else is doing is a sure fire way to lose.

3 Betting: So I slowed down and started 3 betting alot more. This means LATE position to the BLINDS if someone position raises me I will RERAISE them. Almost 70% of the time this works.

If they DO call your RERAISE then its time to play some poker. When the flop hits and its pretty ragged take another stab at it. It usually will miss them. If they call, then just check it down unless you FLOP a MONSTER in which case just trap or simply ALL IN.

If they RERAISE your RERAISE then its time to fold the hand unless you have a PREFLOP monster like AA or KK. I wouldn’t play anything less than that on RUSH in this situation.

I am slowly tweaking my rush game an I feel that RUSH will be my primary source of income by MARCH 2010.

Late Night Tired Poker Playing On PokerStars.net

August 17th, 2009 -- Posted in Poker Strategy | No Comments »

I was just on a low stakes play table and I am realizing just how important discipline is.  I honestly can say I went into on crap hands for most of the game.  I read the players ok, however had some big beats because I thought I had the nuts and didn’t.  Also a moderately loose table which doesn’t give me the right to be loose.

2 Things I am taking away from tonight is:

1.  Be more disciplined and play tighter and higher valued hands
2.  Learn my odds better because I was wrong on a few occasions

Otherwise I had some good plays and am beginning to understand the game more.

EthanCainePoker.com is LIVE and UP!

3 Days ago I knew nothing about poker.  I am starting out as a complete noob and wanted to blog about my journey to becoming a great player.  Some of my reasons for learning poker are the same as yours while others are not.

Reason 1: I want to replace my working income with poker income by the end of the year.  $2000 a month to be exact.

Reason 2: Personal Development – I read all those crazy Tony Robbins books and do those self improvement seminars in hopes of making my life better.  To be an excellent poker player you have to have a highly developed intelligence and personality.

Reason 3: On the spiritual side of things I have been facinated with people who have keen senses of intuition in all walks of life.  I have since learned that intuition is a skill that can be developed.  What better arena to test intuition than at the poker table?!

I invite you to check back often because I will be sharing what I learn every step of the way.
