Lucky You – Drew Barrymore & Eric Bana
September 23rd, 2009 -- Posted in Poker Movies | No Comments »I just finished watching the romantic comedy Lucky You with Drew Barrymore and Eric Bana. Solid poker movie. They mixed the love story very well with the poker. However I can see why this movie flopped. Don’t get me wrong I quite enjoyed it because I really like poker and I really like romantic comedy’s. Most people don’t feel that way though. The poker people will judge it negatively because at times the movie makes poker players look like compulsive addicts. Romantic comedy aficionados will judge it to be weak because most females would not put much stock in Eric Bana’s character because he lacked security.
Long story short this movie should not have been made but I am very glad it was. Robert Duvall and Eric Bana had great chemistry on screen and there were alot of poker lessons throughout the movie. I also loved how this movie was set in 2003 which was the first year an internet poker player won the Word Series of Poker.
Horatio Sanz provides comic relief at the right moments.
Lucky You 2007 - Go See It
As a Romantic Comedy I give it a 7/10
As a Poker Movie I give it 8/10
One of the most important lessons I learned is “Going for broke will only get you broke”
I mean I knew this already but hearing it in this movie really helped me in not being so damn eager to go all in.
